Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then discovered many other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; authorities are presently not informed of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have asked to the residents for information.
A high-ranking official commented the attack left him speechless and required to be resolved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on people of migrant background in February 2020.
