19 of Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his first trophy for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has had a torrid period, achieving just one win at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in especial - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This marks his first title following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt from March of 2023.

Victory also indicates he has achieved 21 championships at 21 distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," said world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his previous six finals, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's retrieving play style and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had led commentators to doubt if his ability to play at the top level was over.

However the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform positively, supported by an better serving game.

The champion came back from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, winning four of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair traded service breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his initial tour title, gained dominance to push for a final set.

He rescued 4 early-game opportunities in a close deciding set before Medvedev broke to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned the title with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
